It is a tribute to owners Chris and Michele Sedgwick that Bistro VG’s swanky, all-white interior radiates refinement rather than feeling like a bad flashback to The Bonfire of the Vanities. The couple transformed their signature restaurant, Van Gogh’s, in 2006, and the reinvention is still the northern suburb’s most adventurous dining destination. Executive chef Eric Balderrama displays an uncommon knack for unifying ingredients. The puckery notes of green apple slaw and vanilla-citrus vinaigrette draw out the sweetness in a meaty crab cake, and a buttery herb jus bridges the flavors between a grilled pork chop, sliced peach, and a slick of grits.

    this was one of our favorite places to go-- not sure what happened but all of the sudden it has really gone downhill for the past year, and lately is just horrendous. i never send back anything, but had to this last time (the escargot was always our favorite, but this last time, it tasted like it had been been in the freezer since the 1800s. what a disappointment... we kept trying to come back with the hopes of it being back to where it was at one point, but each time, we left being very disappointed.

    I disagree with the previous comment. I have gone to Bistro VG for the past 5 years for special occasions as well as for meals with friends. The atmosphere I would describe as comfortable, elegant and chic; the food is phenomenal!!!! I have ordered the steak, scallops, crab cakes, chicken, salads, pizza... you honestly cannot go wrong. Every room is beautiful;what I appreciate most is how management will truly go the extra mile to ensure that you are having a great dining experience. I just love this place! Deserts are a must too!!
