Henri’s Bakery & Café, the family-owned breakfast and lunch spot on Irby Avenue in Buckhead, announced today that Alliance Residential Company has agreed to purchase the building and that it may become part of a mixed-use development. Henri’s, which has been operating in its current location since 1969, will remain open for the foreseeable future, with a temporary relocation possible during construction.

The bakery first opened in what is now Midtown in 1929 and has occupied four other locations since. The Sandy Springs location, at 6289 Roswell Road, will continue to run as usual.

“My grandfather was an unbelievable man and a wonderful chef and community business owner,” owner Madeline Leonard said in a prepared statement. “We appreciate all of our customers. We love our staff and everyone who has enjoyed our cheese straws, cookies, and sandwiches over the years. We are ensuring our grandfather’s legacy lives on in the same location.”

The real estate deal is currently in the due diligence phase and the potential sale is “not expected to immediately impact the business,” the release stated.
