A former interior designer, she travels to Milan twice a year to scout the latest styles for her Phipps shoe boutique, Jedal.

Hair I wash it at night and let it dry naturally, and in the morning when it’s all crazy I take a curling iron to it.

Top I love Roberto Cavalli because he started out designing fabrics and from there designed clothes. He has really soft, pretty, feminine fabrics.

Asymmetrical cut [A piece] has to have a little pizzazz. Even if I get a plain white shirt, it will have some crazy collar.

Accessories I always say to start with a few quality pieces—great black pants or that black dress—and accessorize. You can make a whole new outfit with a scarf or shoes.

Shoes When I get dressed every day, I start with the shoes. What do I feel like today—prancing around in heels or being comfortable in flats? [Pictured: a design from Jedal’s in-house line]

On looking put-together I’m not the type of person who leaves the house without makeup. And sometimes when I put on pajamas I’ll change two or or three times because it’s got to look cute. I’ve done it since I was little.
Jinah is a Georgia State MBA student with an engineering degree from Tech. When she’s not studying or working retail to pay the bills, she charts her fashion obsession on her blog, Bonjour It’s Jinah!

Silhouette I prefer a defined waist—flowy skirts and A-line.

Belt I wanted something solid to pull my outfits together. It’s nice over cardigans and dresses or to break up prints.

Nails I love glitter and crazy colors, but I’m afraid to go too crazy. I’m in business school. People come from the office in button-downs and khakis.

Shoes I love the colors, I love that they have a chunky heel and padded footbed. I’m not going to buy shoes I can’t wear to work. That’s just silly.

Style influence It stopped being celebrities and started being real people. I think that’s the way fashion in general is moving.

Fellow fashion bloggers I’ll read someone’s blog because we have similar body types or coloring—I read lots of Asian blogs for that reason—or we like the same things. It’s interesting to see how someone else styles something you have in your own closet.
But the D.C. native and stop-motion animator (that’s claymation to the rest of us) thinks you can wear a suit and still express yourself.

Dark Colors If I were a bronzed, blond-haired person, I would wear lighter colors, but being fair-skinned I like blacks and grays. There’s an elegance about it, but it’s also very masculine.

Skull Ring The skull is very appropriate for a professor. It’s distinctly human, a symbol of our ability to reason. And of course pirates and bikers as well.

Cowboy Boots I always admired the way Johnny Cash dressed. There was a distinct masculinity about it without being hamfisted. I steal a lot from him. All I own are black cowboy boots—snake and ostrich and calf.

On His Phobia of Shorts Women can wear shorts and look great, but they’re a humiliating thing to put on a man. We look like little kids at a wedding.

On SCAD’s Faculty Dress Code It sends the message to students that we’re all about freedom of expression, but at the end of the day you need to keep the electricity on and sustain a job and look employable.
Off the catwalk, she prefers a style that’s low-key and comfortable.

Hair It changes weekly, from long to short to medium-length, black to brown to highlights. Everyone compares me to Monica Kaufman because they never know what to expect when I show up.

Makeup I’m allergic to everything there is. I had on some Prevage [cream] and my face swelled up like some alien. My dermatologist is like, “Veronica, carry wipes!”

“Nein Danke” Shirt I have a long history with German guys. My friend found this T-shirt at Fox’s and got it for me. No more Germans! I am done!

Jeans I love my True Religions, because they’re so comfortable, and they’re very giving.

Heels Always four to six inches. People ask, “How do you walk in that?” and I’m like, “It’s so easy!”

On Shopping I love a great deal. I can’t justify paying full price for anything. There’s nothing I need that bad.
