The Fashion Cares pre-party reception was for New York designer and the evening's honoree Jason Wu. But the "Love Shack" singer continued past Wu and presented the snacks to Violet, After-Party chairwoman Cathleen Smith-Bresciani's beloved golden retriever service pooch.

Welcome to Fashion Cares 2011, one of the city's most fashionable (and wildest) social gatherings of the year. If there was a dull moment at this year's Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Atlanta AIDS Fund benefit, we didn't observe it. We were too busy scoring scoop.

For example, Wu's heralded return to Fashion Cares was in question due to Hurricane Irene until co-chair Lila Hertz ...

Mayor Kasim Reed announces city's second annual Fashion's Night Out

On Monday morning, Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed took time out from negotiating the region's looming transportation infrastructure plan to announce the city's second annual Fashion's Night Out event. "I want you all to know this must be important," Reed told a packed press conference at the W Buckhead hotel. "Because right now, I'm in the middle of negotiating a $6.5 billion transportation deal!" The city's fashionistas gave Reed a hearty round of applause (under state law, the ambitious plan has to be voted on Monday afternoon).

Once again, Atlanta will join 100 other U.S. cities and urban outlets across the globe Sept. 8 to 12 "to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence and boost the industry's economy during the recession." Various events at Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza and pop up events at Atlantic Station and throughout Midtown will showcase local retailers, designers and celebrate the city's ever-evolving fashion sense. I'm only surprised that it took this long for the national glossy to recognize our trendiest singer-songwriter. The Kansas native moved to ATL back in the mid aughts, signed to Diddy's Bad Boy Records in 2006, and released her first solo EP, Metropolis, in 2007. Of course, VF is known for being rather old-guard when it comes to just whom it inducts into its storied lists (this one is in its seventy-second year), but last year they added Gaga. Before Monáe. Gaga. Well, meat dresses are very well and good (not to mention the epitome of functional fashion), but I'll take Janelle's more timeless take on style any day. Bouffant hair and (irony-drenched) tuxedo'ed stately attire FTW. I think Karl Lagerfeld would agree.

Gilt City Atlanta rolls out even more deals for our thrifty denizens

Well, Gilt City Atlanta had its soft launch on Monday, July 18, and this Wednesday it had its launch party at the Museum of Design Atlanta's new(ish) Midtown digs, so I guess it's finally official: We're Gilt-y (pardon the obvious pun). Guilty of wanting not just one deal but five. Per day. Per hour. Of wanting more, more, more. And I'm okay with that.

Other's have complained that when it comes to discount services, our market is oversaturated. This is true, but only insofar as every major metropolitan area is currently hitting a similar saturation point, so I take us hitting ours as yet another reminder that the ATL is a city comparable to Boston and Chicago (both of which were already Gilt Cities). Besides, I'd only start throwing out complaints of oversaturation if Gilt's addition to the scene were an innocuous one, if it were just throwing out ...

Atlantans welcome W's Fashion Next, designer Frank Tell with poolside party

Despite the fact that the swimming pool was roughly the temperature of bath water, the fashionable Atlantans gathered poolside at the W Buckhead's WET Wednesday night were definitely thinking Fall. After all, the evening's fashion show featured the latest frocks from emerging designer Frank Tell, whose post-apocalyptic themed Fall/Winter 2011 line (Think Tina Turner in "Mad Max") was a huge hit at this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Overseeing the evening was W global fashion director Amanda Ross. Before the cocktail party, the Conde Nast publishing veteran and "Lipstick Jungle" stylist sat down with us in the W's Living Room to discuss her unique role with the hotel.

The film came complete with a team of experts to shed fresh light on the best-selling author's enduring appeal and fashion influence: Jacqueline Susann archivists Lisa Bishop and Whitney Robinson, literary agent Ira Silverberg and Los Angeles boutique owner and one of Time magazine's "25 Most Influential Names and Faces in Fashion" Cameron Silver.

"She was really our first celebrity author," Bishop told us before the screening. "Jackie and her husband [press agent and producer Irving Mansfield] invented the book tour too. She really understood marketing and the media."

Today, The Savannah College of Art and Design debuts SCAD Style 2011, a week celebrating style at both its Savannah and Atlanta campuses. Given our geography, Intel will focus on the Atlanta events but Savannah style mavens can go to the official SCAD Style website for a full list of activities in the Georgia coastal city. And for those who just dropped this month's mortgage payment on that new Coach bag, take heart. All of the events are free.

The week kicks off tonight at 6 with a lecture by street fashion blogger Scott Schuman, better known as "The Sartorialist." The New York Times has called "The Sartorialist" blog "the bellwether site that turned photo blogging into an art form." This week, to celebrate the store's much-heralded debut in Atlanta in the luxury wing of Lenox Square, Zegna threw a private dinner party for 32 of the city's premier tastemakers and ritziest high-end shoppers. Intel was inadvertently included on the guest list.

Even more impressive, acclaimed Italian Sotto Sotto chef and owner Riccardo Ullio was in the stockroom turned kitchen preparing the elaborate three-course dinner. "We're thrilled to finally have a store in Atlanta," Ermenegildo Zegna president and CEO Robert Aldrich told the assembled. "Like Ermenegildo Zegna, Atlanta is dedicated to the arts, culture, sports and has a passion for clothes. We think it's an incredible combination."

While this month’s issue is chock-full of tasty goodies to satisfy V-day’s sweet tooth, you’d be wise to not forget their zero-calorie partner: flowers.

Starting today and running through March 15, Pollen of Buckhead will be occupying a temporary pop-up location in Westside’s White Provision (next to Seed Factory and across from Room & Board). For the past eleven years, owners Bonnie Garrison and Chris Condon have sought out nontraditional stems to create unique arrangements. They don’t completely oust the classics but rather partner traditional stems such as Dutch roses and lilies with upgraded fillers like soft pastel amaryllis, bright anemones from France, and delicate clematis vines.
Pollen's romantic bundles can range from posy-style arrangements of hyacinth, roses, orchids, and hydrangeas to bulbs that will last into the spring. The 2011 collection is described as being “inspired by pops of color, small space solutions, and personality pieces,” one such piece being the vibrant Chloe chair (pictured). With both updates to staple items, such as a new gray stain to the Calvin collection, and a variety of new items, such as the crisp white Pratt table series, there should be plenty to peruse for home decor buffs.
