What are you doing this weekend? June 5-8

Soccer, butterflies, country stars, and lawyer rockers

Cheers, Atlanta, we’ve made it halfway through the year, and we’re so close to the official start of summer we can taste it. This weekend offers up everything we love about summertime—sports, music, cars, butterflies, and lawyers with guitars. (Okay, that last one might not be as conventionally beloved.)

Atlanta International Soccer fest
With the World Cup nearly upon us, it’s time for you to brush up on the offside rule and other intricacies of the game. What better crash course than this one-day, 40-team tournament? Saturday, 8 a.m. atlsoccerfest.com

Rhett Turner
Fun fact: Georgia has 159 counties; the only state with more is Texas. Turner, son of Ted, has produced a photography book, Georgia County Courthouses, that depicts each of those 159 edifices; he’ll sign it during an event at the Carter Presidential Library. Thursday, 7 p.m. jimmycarterlibrary.gov

Flying Colors Butterfly Festival
The annual event at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell includes the release of hundreds of butterflies. Saturday and Sunday. chattnaturecenter.org

Gumball 3000
The auto rally promises an extravagant lineup of supercars, but we wish scheduled performer Xzibit’s would bring along some of those Pimp My Ride vehicles. After all, none of the fancy Ferraris have a fireplace in the trunk. At Centennial Olympic Park. Thursday, 5 p.m. centennialpark.com

SummerFest
The Virginia-Highland festival of music, art, food, and drink celebrates its 31st year. Saturday and Sunday. vahi.org

Zac Brown Band
The homegrown country rockers (check out Zac’s Smyrna man cave-turned-recording studio here) will jam out at Aaron’s Amphitheatre. Saturday, 7 p.m. livenation.com

Atlanta Fringe Festival
Four days, 20 shows, 5 venues. You’ll exhaust yourself if you try to catch ‘em all but taking the challenge promises some interesting theater performances. Through Sunday. atlantafringe.org

LawJam 2014 We already knew that lawyers lead some pretty cool lives outside of the practice, but if you’re still not convinced, check out this Variety Playhouse battle of 7 lawyer bands with names that include Nonbillable Hours and Class Action. Saturday, 7 p.m. variety-playhouse.com

The Atlanta Cycling Festival
This event—which claims to be the city’s first bike fest—includes classes, guided rides through town, and multiple ways to explore Atlanta on two wheels. Saturday through June 14. atlantacyclingfestival.com
