Sure, the temps will be hovering in the 90s this afternoon when Turner Field opens for business with the Arizona Diamondbacks but the spouses of the Atlanta Braves will be in full-on holiday mode. The Braves wives, including Kim Hudson, Tim Hudson‘s missus, will be out in force taking up fan donations of new unwrapped toys (minimum value is $10) for the team’s upcoming Christmas in July visit to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta next month.

At Wednesday and Thursday’s games fans are asked to bring along the gifts to Turner Field where they will be collected from 4:30 p.m. until the end of the first inning in the Monument Grove area of the ball park. In exchange for your gesture of goodwill, fans will be entered into a drawing for some unique Braves memorabilia as a way to say thanks to fans.

In other Braves news, remember that June 1 rain out with the Washington Nationals? Braves reps tell us the game will now be tacked onto the Braves/Nationals Saturday, July 21 match up as part of a doubleheader. The games will be broadcast on Peachtree TV and first pitches will be at 1:05 and 7:05 p.m. The upside? Peachtree TV viewers won’t be subjected to 14 consecutive hours of “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” on July 21. . .
