Film premiere for a cause: “Deadline” comes to Atlantic Station

The city’s top journalists will gather Wednesday at Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 16 for the premiere of “Deadline,” an investigative news thriller starring Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts. Part of the indie film’s multi-city tour, the event benefits VOX Teen Communications and is open to the public starting at $25 a ticket. Pulitzer Prize winners Cynthia Tucker, Hank Klibanoff, Mike Luckovich; former CNN head Tom Johnson; and our own Rebecca Burns are on the host committee.

Based on a novel by journalist-turned-screenwriter Mark Ethridge, “Deadline” follows two modern-day reporters as they dig into a decades-old murder of a black teen in rural Alabama. Roberts—an Atlanta native and brother of mega-star Julia—portrays veteran newshound Ronnie Bullock, a wizened truth-seeker who growls things like: “I’m the kind of Southern boy who don’t care about the color of murder victims.”

Red carpet begins at 6 p.m., the screening at 7. A Q&A with Ethridge, director Curt Hahn, and some cast members follows. Get tickets at deadlinefilm.com/atlanta.

Thrilled to see Deadline made the blog! PLEASE take the time to go see this incredible independent film. I was fortunate enough to catch it at its Nashville premiere & it was amazing. Ethridge & Hahn worked well together to create such a wonderful story line while keeping you on the edge of your sit. I encourage you to take the time to see a great movie while supporting a good cause. Plus to top it off with the red carpet adventure & meet some of the actors makes for an unforgettable experience!
