“Do you know my name?” asked the Hollywood actress of the Georgia state trooper.

“I starred in ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ ‘Walk the Line’ and ‘Election!’” she added.

“I thought you looked familiar,” replied the cop. “Weren’t you also in ‘Little Nicky,’ which was Godawful even by Adam Sandler standards? And my girlfriend broke up with me after I talked her into seeing your latest stinker, ‘This Means War’ … You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you…”

At least, that’s how things might’ve played out if real life were like a movie script.

Instead, the reality was more pedestrian, with Reese Witherspoon arrested for disorderly conduct early Friday morning on Peachtree Street while her husband, agent Jim Toth, was being cited for DUI. According to the police report, the Oscar-winning actress wouldn’t behave during the arrest:

“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”

However, the diminutive, 37-year-old star, perhaps channeling the assertive Tracy Flick, kept getting out of the presumably rented Ford Fusion as Toth was being taken into custody. She “stated that she was a ‘US citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground,’” said the police report.

And, as she was being cuffed for obstruction, she reportedly had this exchange with the arresting officer:

“Mrs. Witherspoon asked, “Do you know my name?” I answered, “No, I don’t need to know your name.” I then added, “right now.” Mrs. Witherspoon stated, “You’re about to find out who I am.”

“Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, ‘You are going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.”

Well, it took a couple days, but Reese was proven right, when Variety broke the story Sunday evening.

The tabloid reported that Toth blew a .139 on a Breathalyzer test and that the pair was jailed briefly before being released. On Sunday night, they were on a red carpet in New York for the premiere of Witherspoon’s new film, “Mud.” The couple’s date in Atlanta Municipal Court was rescheduled from this morning to May 22.

Witherspoon, who’s in Atlanta shooting indie drama “The Good Lie,” issued a public apology in Sunday for pulling the celebrity card:

“I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

No word yet on where they obtained their delicious drinks.
