If you missed last month’s Flux 2010 in Castleberry Hill (successor to Le Flash), be sure to head Downtown when Atlanta’s newest multimedia art experience, Luminocity, premieres two days after Thanksgiving. The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with a fifty-minute performance in Woodruff Park, followed by a parade down Peachtree Street and a thirty-minute finale near the World of Coca-Cola. Outkast’s Big Boi is scheduled to perform. The spectacle will be analogous to Cirque du Soleil or Disneyland’s Main Street Electrical Parade.

The show involves acrobats, aerialists, light displays, music, dancers, and video projections. More than thirty performers will dart through onlookers while moving floats depict different magical scenes. All of this will unfold with high-tech flourishes such as costumes woven of LED fibers.

Founder Kelly Nelson runs the corporate event design and marketing firm the Maverick Group and has staged small affairs akin to Luminocity in the past. Ever since volunteering with Central Atlanta Progress in the nineties, Nelson has longed to enliven the heart of the city by lighting up Downtown like central Paris—at least for a night. luminocityatlanta.com
