Editor’s Note: Don’t get us wrong, we are as obsessive as any TWD fans. But let others pontificate at length. In our view, the show’s narrative conflict is so essential—living vs. undead, civility vs. anarchy, prey vs. predator—that it demands to be distilled in the purest form possible. What better serves that purpose than haiku?

Hershel intubates,
fights disease in the prison.
Things look bleak for sure.

“Rick, where is Carol?”
Maggie is real quizzical.
But buys Rick’s answer.

“Get back in your cells.”
Hershel protects the ailing.
They’re dropping like flies.

Hershel’s surrounded
His patients now the undead.
What fate our hero?

Shooting down walkers.
It’s a father and son job
Nice shootin’ there, Carl.

Glenn’s about to die.
Saved by Hershel and Maggie.
Family bonding.

The crisis is past.
Hershel weeping in cell block.
Bible no comfort.

Yay! Daryl returns!
Even driving minivan,
he’s still the coolest.

“You’re a tough sumbitch,”
Daryl compliments Herschel.
Southern gentlemen.

Rick should tell Daryl
about forcing Carol off,
but gardens instead.

Oh! What is this now?
