It may not look like much now, but come July 2, this spot across the way from Centennial Olympic Park will house Atlanta’s 200-foot tall Ferris wheel. Step one: Create the waiting-to-board area. About 15,000 pounds of concrete will be poured here starting this evening. (We showed up at the media photo op time to find the actual concrete demo a little behind schedule.)
SkyView Atlanta will be next to The Tabernacle and have forty-two air-conditioned capsules. And here’s a fun fact: The light show that will accompany the ride was designed by the same team that created the City of Lights’ Eiffel Tower show.
The Ferris wheel is scheduled to be up and running in less than two weeks. Compare that to the London Eye, which took about a year to put together. Granted, the Eye is more than twice the size of SkyView Atlanta, which should top out at around 200 feet.
I’m a little skeptical about its appeal; but maybe that’s just because I don’t like heights.
