From the Magazine
Finding the right school for your child has never been easy, but with today's faltering economy, the stakes are even higher.
In this year's research for our annual school guide, we asked both public and private schools how the economy has affected their enrollment and services. We asked families how they weight the pros and cons. And once again we've produced Atlanta's most comprehensive guide to local primary and secondary schools.

Schools listed here are the highest-scoring schools in their respective systems. Top elementary and middle schools were determined by the percentage of students who exceeded expectations in the most recently available CRCT results. High schools were selected by SAT scores. Although housing costs are designated by zip codes here, school attendance zones are not determined by zip codes. The housing costs cited will provide only general comparisons. Our source for average home prices was Georgia MLS. It was the average price of sold listings for the period January–August 2009. Demographic data was gathered from schools, system administrators, and greatschools.net.
The schools listed in
this guide are members of the Atlanta Area Association of Independent
Schools (AAAIS). These schools are accredited through organizations such
as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern
Association of Independent Schools, and the Georgia Accrediting
Commission. There are many more independent schools in metro Atlanta
than space allows us to list here. See the accrediting bodies’ websites
for more listings. The information in this guide was obtained via a
survey of AAAIS schools conducted in late 2009. NOTES ON THESE LISTINGS n/a = not applicable; data NA =
data not available; questions omitted were not applicable or not
answered by the school.
