Vanity Fair puts Janelle Monae on its International Best-Dressed List
I'm only surprised that it took this long for the national glossy to recognize our trendiest singer-songwriter. The Kansas native moved to ATL back in the mid aughts, signed to Diddy's Bad Boy Records in 2006, and released her first solo EP, Metropolis, in 2007. Of course, VF is known for being rather old-guard when it comes to just whom it inducts into its storied lists (this one is in its seventy-second year), but last year they added Gaga. Before Monáe. Gaga. Well, meat dresses are very well and good (not to mention the epitome of functional fashion), but I'll take Janelle's more timeless take on style any day. Bouffant hair and (irony-drenched) tuxedo'ed stately attire FTW. I think Karl Lagerfeld would agree.
