American Roadhouse

Murphy’s may be Virginia-Highland’s fallback for brunch, but American Roadhouse just a half mile down the road rules the neighborhood for breakfast. The dining room’s burst of primary colors certainly rouses the senses. Since 1989 the restaurant has served reassuring scrambles and flapjacks to generations of recent college grads and young families—and to ageless partiers grateful for the bottomless cup of coffee. A second location in Downtown’s Pencil Factory lofts recently closed after less than a year.

ORDER THIS: Going Green scramble with avocado, scallions, spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes; multigrain pancakes.
