In 2011 Radial underwent a near-total renovation. It morphed its bland, industrial dining room into a farmhouse-chic cocoon with walls gussied up with wood from a torn-down North Georgia barn. Owner Frank Bragg installed low-flow water fixtures and implemented a system where 80 to 90 percent of the restaurant’s waste goes to composting and recycling—Radial is the only Atlanta eatery certified by the Green Restaurant Association. It also started serving dinner. The downside to all this reinvention? Breakfast, long a staple of this Candler Park favorite, feels a bit neglected. The kitchen has a habit of overcooking scrambled eggs, and fresh sage overwhelms the flavors in a vegan hash made with tofu.
ORDER THIS: Hash is the key word. Red flannel hash comes with either corned beef or turkey, tossed with onions, peppers, and red potatoes and topped with fried eggs; sweet potato hash is a satisfying collage of earthy flavors, including parsnips, caramelized onions, and roasted poblanos.
