The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has a long history of investing in new works by contemporary composers, but few are as breathtaking as the spectacles by the ASO’s own Michael Kurth. The performance of the 45-year-old bassist’s work “A Thousand Words”—his fourth piece for the ASO—proved to be a dramatically charged highlight of the season’s opening night in late September. The tune will be included in the composer’s full album released by the symphony in May 2019.
