In his latest message to fans, Atlanta director Tyler Perry announced that shooting has wrapped on his film adaptation of Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."

In the new email, Perry writes: "We just finished the movie and I have to tell you, I have new respect for Ntozake Shange's 1975 writings. Listening to these words spoken through the voices of Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Tessa Thompson, Macy Gray, Kimberly Elise, Thandie Newton, Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson and Loretta Devine, made me not only respect the brilliance of the material but also pull out everything in me to do my best to give it the care and attention to detail it deserved. Out of all that I've ever done in my life, nothing has taken more out of me than this film. It is remarkable."

Perry is now taking a well-earned vacation in Hawaii.

Judging from the afternoon we spent on-set at the "For Colored Girls" set this summer, Intel can attest to the arduous task of filming Shange's original, now-classic source material.

In the brand-new August "Football Issue" of Atlanta magazine, we'll take you to set of the new Perry picture where we were thisclose to Jackson, Goldberg, Newton, Rashad and Devine as they shot an emotionally harrowing hospital ER scene with a couple of commendable child actors inside the Gwinnett Medical Center's Glancy Rehabilitation Center.

At points during the filming, even veteran crew members had to occasionally advert their eyes from the raw emotions being expertly played out on the monitors in front of them.

Read our full report in the August issue of Atlanta. The issue hit subscriber mailboxes last week and will available on newstands next week. The August issue is already available as a digital subscription for your iPad or iPhone as well.

"For Colored Girls" is scheduled to hit theaters MLK Weekend in January.
