Midtown Promenade's MetroFresh restaurant chef/owner Mitchell Anderson has some big news to share with customers Sunday at the eatery's 5th anniversary party.

Under a new partnership with the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Anderson will open MetroFresh in the Garden inside the popular tourist attraction early next year.

Over the last few years, Anderson has weighed opening a second location (at one time he was considering a Buckhead space) but wanted MetroFresh to grow organically.

"This feels like the perfect fit for us," Anderson tells Dish."The Garden's mission and ours are very similar. They have the four other senses really well covered. We want to add the sense of taste for the Garden visitor. We don't want a visit there to be complete without a stop at MetroFresh."

The location, tentatively set to open in late January, will occupy space adjacent to the gift shop.

MetroFresh's dishes, meanwhile, will be a combination of the company's customer favorite soups, salads, sandwiches (and its signature Mitchili) but will also draw inspiration from the Garden's new Edible Garden attraction.

"There are going to be lots of educational opportunities for us," Anderson previews. "Whether it's teaching kids about where their food comes from or sharing a seasonal recipe with the adults. I'm really excited!" The Garden and MetroFresh will even team up to teach composting 101 classes for visitors.

MetroFresh will celebrate its fifth anniversary with friends and regulars on Sunday at the shop located at 931 Monroe Drive from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
