Project Runway recap, Season 7, Ep. 4: I never knew there was chicken in this soup!
Posted 2/5/2010 9:06:00 AM
Two things disturbed me about this week's challenge, which was to create a signature dress for the Campbell's Soup Address Your Heart gala, to be worn by a real woman who has been impacted by heart disease. The dress was to be mostly red and incorporate Campbell's branding.
First: Campbell's branding? On a dress? Warhol may have rendered it an
icon, but that doesn't mean anyone should wear it. All I could think about was the kid at grade school who smelled like soup. You know who I'm talking about.
Second, I'll go ahead and point out that Campbell's is the last thing you should eat if you're suffering from heart disease. That's like Exxon Mobil sponsoring Earth Day. Get a salad, y'all.
One thing that did not disturb me was the task of designing
for a full-figured woman. In the real world, fashion designers have to
consider how ...

Cheers to Lululemon Athletica
Posted 2/3/2010 12:34:00 PM
In recent weeks I've written a store profile on the new Lululemon Buckhead and borrowed one of their running skirts for a photo shoot. Everyone either OMG LOVES this company or has never heard of it. Me, I had mixed feelings at first. $98 for stretch pants? That's a lot to ask for something you can't wear out to dinner. But according to my dancer friend, they're OMG THE BEST-FITTING PANTS EVER, and assuming you don't wash them with towels and get them all pilly and stuff, they'll hold up for years.
As the least flexible person on the planet, I'm more attracted to Lululemon's run line than its anchoring yoga line. And when I say attracted, I mean I took one look at those super-cute moisture-wicking tees and wee little shorts and considered signing up for the ING half marathon. I didn't, of course. It's waaaay too cold outside ...

Inman Park's Jac to close
Posted 2/1/2010 12:03:00 PM
I start your week off on a sad note, shopping friends. I received the following e-mail this morning:
After two and a half lovely years in Inman Park, Jac is closing. We have loved getting to know our customers, neighbors, pups, and tots over time and wish you all the best! ... Beginning today, EVERYTHING in the shop is 50-90% off! Seriously. Jewelry, baby stuff, gifts, clothing. Been lusting after our fixtures and furniture? Well those too are all for sale! Prices start at $15.
Owned by former stylist and travel editor Jaci Effron, Jac has been open not quite three years in the Inman Park Village Lofts. Effron's selection of bohemian-inspired clothing and goods is absolutely expertly edited, if a little on the pricey side. For a time it looked as though that stretch of North Highland was immune to the downturn, but in December, Jac's across-the-street neighbor The ...
