Tomorrow night! Shop at Elie Tahari to benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation

Posted 3/8/2010 5:35:00 PM
We can all agree that the only thing better than shopping is shopping to benefit a worthy cause. This Tuesday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Phipps Plaza Elie Tahari will offer cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a special trend presentation by local fashionista Amy Flurry. Guests will receive 20 percent off items in the spring 2010 collection, and—most importantly—10 percent of each purchase will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Georgia and Alabama, which helps grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The event will be hosted by Cassanda Ferguson, Kathy Hammond, and Kim Hudson. To RSVP, e-mail events@elietahari.com or call 212-763-2017.

Project Runway, Season 7, Ep. 7: Karma's a Stitch

Okay kids, I promise we'll return to our full-length, full-of-snark recaps next Friday. But thanks to travel and deadlines I've just about run out of juice this week. And I'm clearly not the only one. The judges completely screwed the pooch.

So to briefly sum up last night's travesty: The challenge was to create an innovative look plus an accessory out of hardware store materials. The designers had $150 to work with, and Emilio flat out blew it. He didn't get enough material, so in desperation he turned the piece into a bathing suit, but really, it wasn't even a bathing suit—just a mess of metal washers and what looked to be silly string. You would need one hell of a Brazilian to pull that off.

I think Emilio is talented, his lisp endearing. But that design was a joke, and the judges made a joke of the show when ...

Coming up: Tibi trunk show at Lenox Bloomingdale's

Posted 3/2/2010 5:18:00 PM
Attention, fans of intricate, colorful, feminine prints (preferably on silk). Stop by the Lenox Bloomingdale's any time on Thursday, March 4, for an exclusive Tibi trunk show—exclusive in that there will be special-order pieces not carried in the store. You'll get a "special gift" with your Tibi purchase and be entered to win the seriously eye-catching dress at right.

Many of you know that Tibi's Amy Smilovic was raised on St. Simon's and graduated from UGA. That's inspiration for all you local designers out there! For further inspiration, check out Style.com's gallery of Tibi's spring RTW collection.

Sweet new shops: Swank and Lexie & Jane

Two boutiques have opened in Buckhead in the past week:

Lexie and Jane, located in a cozy cottage on East Paces Ferry, is all about taking you from a lounge-y Saturday afternoon to a classy Saturday night. You'll find super-soft tees and flannels as well as cocktail dresses by Shoshanna and denim by Habitual and Genetic. Owner Rebecca McWaters was raised on St. Simon's and lived in New York (Lexie & Jane is a salute to Lexington Avenue and Jane Street) and loves to surf, and her selection reflects all these things. 516 East Paces Ferry Road, 404-343-3194

Swank, which has a location is in Birmingham's tony Mountain Brook Village, is all about the hard-to-find but totally fashion-forward labels: Mara Hoffman, Rozae Nichols, Vivienne Westwood, Vivienne Tam, footwear by Barbara Bui. Prices sometimes crest four figures, but owner Emily Dees Boulden, a former Saks buyer, sprinkles in affordable pieces, too ...
