At the Guthman Competition, innovative instruments just might predict the future of music

This is the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition, a Star Wars cantina band–meets–science fair contest that attracts inventors from all over the globe. Set up by Georgia Tech's Center for Music Technology, participants battle for a $5,000 first prize while providing glimpses of what music might sound like in the future.

Now they've launched Unladylike, a podcast under their own brand, where they've been interviewing guests about everything from abortion and female friendship to body positivity and self-worth.

Flashback: Doraville Boxing Club, 1990

Photographer David Zeiger started work on a documentary about Doraville, which became PBS’s Displaced in the New South, and discovered the diverse Doraville Boxing Club tucked away in a strip mall. “In the gym, you learn to respect each other—otherwise you’re gonna get your ass kicked,” says Cesar, the boxer photographed “Over here, we don’t look at color. We don’t look at race. We learn to respect each other with these gloves.”
