Eating Around: Christmas
Every week, we give you a detailed calendar of upcoming dining events to help you navigate the weekend’s culinary festivities. Christmastime is here, so we’re dedicating this week’s edition to restaurants with special Christmas and Christmas Eve offerings, giving you a nice alternative to kitchen insanity or the standard glazed ham.
The St. Regis’s Paces 88
will serve up a Christmas Eve dinner and a Christmas Day brunch this year. For the eve, Paces has an $80-per-person meal ($105 with wine pairings, and children twelve and under eat for $40) that includes winter truffle risotto, crisp pork belly, and chocolate caramel bar with peppermint sherbet, along with live entertainment, from 7 to 10 p.m. On the big day, a standard brunch will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last till 2:30 p.m., at $60 per person ($30 for the twelve-and-under crowd), also replete with live entertainment.
The Mansion on Peachtree’s NEO
offers up a festive, four-course dinner for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, costing a cheaper $55 (children five to twelve get in for $25, and those under five eat free). The meal entails pan-seared duck breast, bacon-wrapped Eden Farms pork loin, chestnut veloute, lavender bread pudding with ginger ice cream, and chocolate praline terrine, and diners will receive complimentary valet parking.
at The Glenn Hotel will inaugurate its Christmas buffet this year. Running 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., it features the holiday’s old-reliable—honey-baked ham—along with other traditional fare with Southern influences. The meal costs an even cheaper $40 for adults, $15 for children twelve and under, and once more, free for those under five.
ROOM AT TWELVE
will whip up a Christmas brunch of roasted turkey with cranberry-apple glaze and the like from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Room’s price one-ups 30 Tables, but just a bit, costing $39 for adults, $17 for those between the ages of five and seventeen, and free for the under-five set.
The city’s Ritz-Carlton
will prepare a mean feast for Atlantans at its Atlanta Grill on both Christmas Eve and Day from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Costing $58 per person, the four-course meal can entail porcini mushroom soup, cured duck ham, grilled angus beef tenderloin, pan-roasted smoked salmon, and a sugar sphere filled with eggnog ice cream for dessert. For lighter fare, the Ritz’ll whip up a Christmas Day brunch between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. featuring live entertainment by the Jerry Lambert jazz trio. Patrons can enjoy eggnog french toast, vanilla waffles, ham with kumquat marmalade, sweet potato puree, and apple cider beignets, and it’ll only set them back $55 per adult, $25 per child.
LA PIETRA CUCINA
To celebrate the Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes, La Pietra Cucina
will serve a table d’hote menu from December 21 until December 30.
And now for something completely different. For an Asian-inflected change of course, Spice Market
will be open during the holidays offering char-grilled chicken with kumquat lemongrass dressing.
If you still want to enjoy the comforts of home during the holidays but don’t want to deal with the torments of holiday cooking, Murphy’s
will sell $125 party-of-four dinners featuring wild mushroom soup, roasted turkey breasts, and molasses mashed sweet potatoes, which one can pick up at the Virginia-Highland eatery on Christmas Eve between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. For another to-go option, South City Kitchen
will sell complete dinners for eight, but order by December 20 to be able to pick it up the day before Christmas Eve. South City’s dinners include muffins, cornbread, roasted chicken breast, cranberry sauce, collard greens, and pecan pie, for $22.50 per person, in multiples of eight.
PLACES TO STOCK YOUR KITCHEN
To help compile the necessities for your Christmas shindig, Star Provisions
sells shortbread cookies with ornate designs, cupcakes topped with snowman made of frosting, and the bakery’s seasonal favorite: the yule log, made with spongecake and chocolate butter cream frosting. If you need a wider offering, Alon’s
sells holiday poundcakes, more yule log, homemade chocolates with fillings ranging from port fig to cranberry caramel, along with their prevailing gift baskets.
