Five alternative ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day
From dinner and a show at Woodfire Grill to mingling at Whiskey Blue
Between the struggle to secure a reservation and the sudden arrival of expensive prix fixe menus, Valentine’s Day can be a challenging time to dine out. This year we’re challenging you to ditch the traditional dinner date (just this once), and consider these five Valentine’s Day alternatives, including options for both those who love—and hate—this “Hallmark holiday.”
Terrarium Making at Kai Lin Art Studio
Couples can put their passion into a shared activity with Garden’s hands-on terrarium-making class on February 13. The cost is $100 and includes cocktails, wine, and appetizers, as well as a 10-inch glass terrarium for each participant.
Fools for Love at Woodfire Grill
Yes, Woodfire Grill is one of those establishments you’d think of for a traditional Valentine’s date, but on February 10, it’s turning into a dinner theater. Starting at 7 p.m., Georgia Shakespeare’s Associate Artists will perform live jazz during a four-course wine dinner. The cost is $150, $90 of which is tax-deductible.
Red Light, Green Light at Whiskey Blue
From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, Whiskey Blue will be passing out red, yellow, and green wristbands for its Red Light, Green Light party. The colors signal whether attendees are single and ready to mingle (green), potentially interested (yellow), or off the market (red). There will be Grey Goose cocktails specials all night. Tickets cost $15 for one, $25 for couples, and $50 for a group of five.
Stupid Cupid Night at El Taco
Focusing on “unromantic” food and drinks, El Taco will have pitchers of Rebound-a-Ritas (blood orange skinny margaritas) for $25 and shots of Jilted Juice (pineapple-infused tequila) for $4. Then there’s the Misery Loves Company group dinner special with ten tacos, two desserts, and a choice of either a veggie Mexican pizza or salsa, guacamole, and queso, plus discounts on Rebound-a-Ritas.
Aphrodisiac Soups at Souper Jenny
The Buckhead location of this soup-salad-sandwich spot will be serving aphrodisiac-centric soups the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. On February 14, the new Decatur Souper Jenny will celebrate its opening by hosting a “lovefest” complete with face painting, giveaways, and a menu full of more aphrodisiacs.
