Counter Culture Coffee class

Tonight, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Atlantans are invited to a complimentary coffee class led by 2013 World Brewers Cup champion Erin McCarthy. Hosted by Counter Culture Coffee—which is available at more than twenty Atlanta spots including Woodfire Grill and Leon’s Full Service—the event includes coffee tastings and small bites from Alon’s Bakery & Market and Mae’s Bakery.

Held at the Atlanta Training Center for Counter Culture at the King Plow Arts Center, the workshop will cover the importance of different types of coffee bean varieties and the future of coffee.

Moises and Marysabel Herrera, owners of the renowned Finca El Puente coffee farm, will present seven to nine varieties that they’ve grown, harvested, and processed (and that are then roasted by Counter Culture Coffee). Attendees will have the opportunity to taste each variety to determine the differences among them.

McCarthy will then speak about the World Brewers Cup, share his brewing process for Counter Culture’s Finca El Puente coffee, and offer samples.

“This series is focused on coffee variety, because I believe learning about and experimenting with different varieties is vital to the future of coffee,” McCarthy says. “In addition, this class represents one of the long-standing relationships we’ve built with coffee farmers over the years. It’s a model for how we work with coffee producers to continue to strive toward the ideal of coffee perfection.”

The food served will include crudité, antipasto, deli salads, soba with Asian chicken salad, artisan cheeses, pear and radicchio bruschetta, and eggplant and goat cheese bruschetta; in addition to a selection of baked goods.
