Holy Taco

Since launching in 2008, Holy Taco has found a culinary groove serving affordable and ever-nervier interpretations of Latin small plates. In fact, though taco fillings such as goat, chicken hearts, and a harmonious trio of shrimp, guacamole, and queso fresco make for a few fun bites, the tacos are the least interesting part of the menu.

Kudos to chef Robert Phalen for serving smelts and sardines, pungent fishes (spritzed here with interesting citrus such as Meyer lemon or Japanese yuzu) that get lots of play on the West Coast but don’t appear locally often enough. For frequent restaurant-goers who feel that every place in town serves the same ingredients prepared in similar ways, this East Atlanta gem is an antidote.
