Sugar-Coated Radical

Chocolatier Taria Camerino is on her way to much-deserved commercial success. She opened her sliver of a chocolate shop on a dead-end street in Virginia-Highland in late 2010 but moved to a more trafficked location off Boulevard in the Old Fourth Ward in 2011. Beer caramels, tangerine pâtes de fruits, extraordinary blackberry and melon lollipops, truffles that may be scented with lemon oil or Parmesan, and thin white chocolate bars strewn with rose petals and pistachios showcase Camerino’s edgy imagination.

The shop is open noon to 6 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, when Camerino draws on her pastry background and serves fresh brioche, chocolate croissants, empanadas, and quiches.
