Since 2002, Georgia’s second largest production brewery has been a reliable destination for beer styles not widely available in the Southeast—take Wake-n-Bake, a coffee oatmeal stout so rich and creamy that it might as well be a breakfast beer. Find classics like the assertive, yet balanced, Hopsecutioner IPA (the brewery has a wooden guillotine out front that’s a popular photo opp), or the refreshing session Recreation Ale, their go-to outdoor beer. Things can take a wacky turn at the no-frills brewhouse, like with Maggie’s Blackberry Cobbler Imperial Farmhouse Ale. We’ll stick with seasonals like the Moo Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout and anticipate, with many a zombie fan, the fall launch of The Walking Dead-themed blood orange red IPA. For guided tours of Terrapin’s production brewery, visitors are required to wear closed-toe shoes.

Good to know: Co-founders John Cochran and Brian “Spike” Buckowski have kept palates happy with a commitment to bold, big brews. Both were largely inspired to open their own place after seeing the impact of craft beer out West.
