coalitionlogo1Table & Main and Osteria Mattone owner Ryan Pernice believes Atlanta is becoming more community oriented. “There’s this interesting move happening where these little city-states are popping up. Alpharetta and Woodstock are investing in their downtown. Roswell has Canton Street. People are going to have a greater pull to eat closer to home and have better options there,” he says.  So strong is this belief that he’s focused his third restaurant on it.

Called Coalition Food & Beverage, it will serve sandwiches, salads, burgers, and steaks in an energetic atmosphere designed for engagement. The restaurant is planned to open in late summer 2017 in Alpharetta’s Teasley Place.

“A coalition is a coming together of like-minded people,” Pernice explains.

Rather than open Coalition near his other restaurants in Roswell, Pernice chose Alpharetta because all of the new construction happening. “They built a new town square and a city hall. There are plans to connect to Avalon through a BeltLine-like trail,” he says. “People want this urban walkability. I want to play off the growing energy of these city centers.”

At 3,331 square feet, Coalition will have 150 seats, including those at the bar, on the sidewalk, and in the private dining room. It will feature exposed steelwork and ductwork to give it an edge, and large windows to invite the outside in. There will be street-style art and a large bar. “It will remind me of my time in the East Village in New York,” Pernice says.

His brother, Dan Pernice, will oversee the bar program, offering an equal balance of local craft beers, wines that don’t break the bank, and craft cocktails that “don’t take 20 minutes to prepare.” Table & Main chef Woolery Back will lead the kitchen, passing along his Table & Main responsibilities to sous chef Jess Liberatore. While the Coalition menu is still in the works, Pernice says it will feature high-end premium meats like steak, as well as salads with protein (think cobb salad with grilled shrimp), and sandwiches such as a reuben, veggie burger, and classic burger. Baby back ribs may be on the menu, too.
