T-day alert: Still time to order a pastured bird

794
Though most local producers of pastured poultry have long since sold out of holiday birds, a couple of Southern farms are still accepting orders for Thanksgiving. But don’t drag your heels. The two growers mentioned below are technically accepting orders into next week, but be warned: Once they sell out, that’s it. (It’s a little too late to start growing more birds.)

White Oak Pastures is taking orders for their organic, heritage-breed, pastured birds via Riverview Farms. Place your order by Tuesday, Nov. 16; pick up your farm-processed turkey on Thursday, Nov. 18, at East Atlanta Farmers Market or Saturday, Nov. 20, at Peachtree Road Farmers Market. Prices are $99 for an approximately 15-pound turkey, $120 for a 16- to 20-pound turkey, and $140 for a 21-pound or larger turkey. To order, e-mail suzannewelander@gmail.com with size, preferred pickup location and your phone number.

West Wind Farms of Deer Lodge, Tenn., will deliver fresh, organic, pasture-fed turkeys to its booths at the Chamblee and Dacula farmers markets on Saturday, Nov. 20. Prices range from $4 to $4.75 per pound, depending on bird size. Place orders no later than Thursday, Nov. 18. (You may also pick up your bird at delivery points in Alpharetta, Acworth, Clarkston and Duluth.)
