Tomo closing in Vinings to focus on Buckhead

A tweet sent out yesterday by RestMart.com alerted my colleague Jackson Reeves to the surprising news that Tomo chef/owner Tomohiro Naito has put his original location on Cobb Parkway in Vinings up for sale. A called to Naito confirmed that he’s leaving Vinings to concentrate on his new location in Buckhead, at 3630 Peachtree Road—the skyscraper that includes the Ritz-Carlton Residences.

Naito said that he’d been searching for enough kitchen talent to man both restaurants, and when he couldn’t find it, he made the difficult decision to leave Vinings. He’s hoping the new Buckhead space, which has been in the works for over a year, will finally be ready by the end of next month. Tony Akly of Restaurant Consulting Group, Inc., who designed the Vinings space, is also in charge of the Buckhead space’s interior.

Though sad for Vinings residents, I’m betting the move to a higher-profile location will deservedly elevate Naito’s status as one of the city’s finest chefs.
