Drink Up: Perrine’s Wine Shop
Westside’s juicy couture
Too many wine shops in Atlanta, no matter how choice their inventories, display all the decor appeal of a storage warehouse. How wonderful, then, to step into the breezy serenity of Perrine’s Wine Shop, which opened in August on the Westside. Gauzy curtains, whitewashed columns, and even a showcased French skin care line make the place feel more like a boutique clothing store.
Owner Perrine Prieur lends substance to the style. A native of Burgundy, France, Prieur worked for four years as sommelier at the recently closed Joël, where she drew attention for her savvy wine and food pairings. I tested her acumen when I visited her shop: What to match with a coconut-milk-based Indian chicken stew? Her blue eyes lit up at the challenge. We strolled the store as she rhapsodized in her French lilt about several options before we decided on an obscure white, a Collioure Blanc, from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in Southern France. Subtly floral and a little spicy, it sang alongside the stew. I’ll be back soon to quiz her on pairings with Moroccan tagine, or maybe Brunswick stew. 1168 Howell Mill Road, 404-254-5077, perrineswine.com
