➻The franks at HD1 (664 North Highland Avenue) may come covered with mango-pork ragout or dressed with crawfish tails and shrimp-head aioli. We keep returning for the unaffected pleasure of the Classic Hot Dog ($4.50)—made locally by Spotted Trotter—topped with sauerkraut and mustard.
➻ Crowds descend on Brandi’s World Famous Hot Dogs (1377 Church Street Extension, Marietta, 770-422-3681)as soon as the doors open at 10 a.m. (Monday through Friday; closed on weekends). Be warned: The ruddy Chili Dog ($1.85) packs no-joke heat.
➻ The Vienna Beef frank and toppings—pickles, peppers, tomatoes, relish, and mustard—on the Chicago Style Hot Dog ($2.89) at Skip’s (48 North Avondale Road, Avondale Estates) does the Windy City proud. It even sports the requisite poppy seed–speckled bun.
