Centennial Olympic Park

If there is a lasting and tangible remnant of the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, it is Centennial Olympic Park. It transformed vacant and blighted blocks into a vibrant gathering space during the Games and over the subsequent decades has become the new heart of Downtown, arguably supplanting Five Points as the nerve center of the city, and certainly serving as a more welcoming landmark for visitors. As grass and trees have filled in over the years, the park has evolved from a pile of commemorative bricks into a restful oasis.
