This Week in Atlanta History: The debut of Six Flags Over Georgia
On June 16, 1967, the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park opened. Among the original rides was the super-creepy "Tales of the Okefenokee" tour through a faux swamp and past mythical critters. Check out the awesomely trippy video footage below. Based on the Joel Chandler Harris tales, it was a major draw in the politically incorrect Confederate section of the park. (Aside from the Stars and Bars, the five other flags represented in the park's themed sections were Britain, Spain, Georgia, France, and the United States.)
