Java Jive

Shira Levetan and Steven Horwitz’s homage to kitchen kitsch (we love the Formica-topped tables and the vintage toaster collection) opened in 1994 and has become one of the city’s few stellar breakfast haunts. The chorizo-flecked Santa Fe scramble with a fluffy, lopsided biscuit is our standing order, though we’ll happily brave the crowds for the weekend-only gingerbread waffle served with lemon curd and the seasonal pumpkin pancakes. Insider tip: Levetan also bakes wedding cakes.
