Kimball House

The latest star of the Decatur dining scene, housed in a former train depot, has so much going for it: the nostalgic glamour of the dining room and the handsome bar fashioned from the building’s original floorboards; a spectacular bar crew led by Miles Macquarrie; and the city’s finest oyster service, with an ever-changing array of twenty or so pristine beauties. Chefs Jeffrey Wall and Philip Meeker helm the kitchen, creating menus of intense, artful dishes that change nightly.

The name of this Decatur showboat hearkens to a nineteenth-century hotel in downtown Atlanta; the look (knotty wood trim, old-timey wallpaper with an hourglass pattern) conjures grand inns of another era. Before slurping through a platter of oysters on ice, order a cocktail from an ace team of bartenders led by Mils MacQuarrie, who most recently helmed the beverage program at nearby Leon’s.
Drink this: The signature Kimball House, featuring Martin Miller’s Westbourne gin, Cocchi Americano, Dolin dry vermouth, and house orange bitters.
