Taqueria Tsunami

This smart approach to next-generation fusion cuisine—served in a flatteringly lit, wood-lined room—is creating buzz on Marietta Square. (The restaurant’s first location, around the back of a Buckhead building near Peachtree Battle Shopping Center, closed without fanfare last year.) Nontraditional tacos grab the most attention. Start with the Rising Sun (Vietnamese-style pork topped with Asian slaw and cilantro) or the BBQ short rib option (crowned with cucumber salad and inspired by the Korean-style tacos from Los Angeles’s Kogi food trucks). Rice bowls that explore Mexican or Japanese flavor profiles, smooth queso and guacamole with warm chips, and avocado-cilantro egg rolls with spicy Thai sauce fill out the global mix-and-match approach. The service couldn’t be any nicer, and the restaurant gives 5 percent of its profits to the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund.
