In 2012, Steve McKenzie left his post as CEO of mega custom-frame company Larson-Juhl and created two product lines: linen fabrics based on his own squiggly geometric designs, and handsomely tailored upholstered furniture. These signature products form the core of a new Westside retail store McKenzie opened in the fall of 2012 with his wife, Jill. The couple have sought out handcrafted furniture, accessories, lighting, and jewelry from regional artisans for a look they call “modern Southern.” For example, they’ve paired a narrow, gray-stained, elliptical oak table with midcentury French chairs—giving just a wink to Saarinen. The store is also the sole regional rep for French furniture company Grange, which left ADAC in 2007.
