The transcendence of Cacao's bean-to-bar chocolate is already renowned, but owner Kristen Hard and her staff have explored broader territory since opening new stores in Buckhead and Virginia-Highland in 2011. Pastel-shaded macarons are their finest non-chocolate endeavor, made with almond flour in the traditional manner but without the food coloring often added. Beyond classics like vanilla, chocolate, and lemon, the pistachio filled with cherry pâte de fruit (an intense fruit jelly) is a sublime combination. Around the holidays, look for new flavors like salted caramel or coffee (from local roasters Batdorf & Bronson) as well as macarons dipped in chocolate.
