Healthiest counties in Georgia

Some metro counties top the list

Metro Atlanta counties are some of the healthiest in the state, according to a study released today. Forsyth is No. 1, followed by Fayette, Oconee, Gwinnett, Cherokee, and Cobb.

Other metro counties didn't fare so well. DeKalb was 17, Fulton was 29, and Clayton was 42. At the bottom are Clay, Stewart, Terrell, McDuffie, and Wilcox.

The study is by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The rankings are based on many factors including health behaviors (diet and exercise, tobacco and alcohol use, sexual activity), access to and quality of health care, social and economic factors, and physical environment.
