Nothing defines an outdoor room like a distinctive rug. Thanks to an acrylic fiber called polypropylene, durable outdoor rugs resist fading, stains, and mildew. Flat, sisal-like weaves can be cleaned off with a garden hose. Softer, loop pile rugs are not quite as weather-resistant but last longer on covered porches. Either way, options abound for open-air spaces. Prominent designers like Suzanne Kasler and Bunny Williams are even getting into the act.
