Modern Atlanta celebrates contemporary style with Design is Human Week
Weeklong event includes architecture tour, exhibitions, and lectures
Through June 8, Modern Atlanta presents its eighth annual Design Is Human Week, which welcomes both amateur and professional aficionados of contemporary style. Programs include the popular MA Architecture Tour of a dozen private homes and a couple of commercial spaces, as well as international product exhibitions, lectures, films, and parties. On Wednesday, Antoine Roset, executive vice president of Ligne Roset, and Paolo Cravedi, managing director of Alessi, will talk about the value of original design at a panel moderated by Susan Szenasy of Metropolis magazine.
The Design Is Material Trade Exhibition, held at ADAC, will prove their point, with high-tech building materials, new product launches, and innovative items from headphones to light fixtures. Atlanta industrial designer Chris Hardy’s tables for Design Within Reach (see left) will be on display.
“Modern Atlanta plays an integral role in bringing design thinking to a Southern audience,” says Hardy. “The South is typically removed from the contemporary design scene. It helps me give a design identity to my hometown.”
