Like many powder rooms, this one started with the tile. Unlike most powder rooms, this one’s designer conceived of that tile himself. “It has a black and white wave pattern, so there’s a lot of movement,” says James Wheeler, who debuts his Stonelluxe tile collection this summer. “I like to go kind of crazy in small places like powder rooms.” The tiles, with their Palm Springs–inspired vibe, line the floor and run all the way up the back wall.

Wheeler’s first career was in the corporate world, but surviving kidney cancer encouraged him to jump into his passion feet first. Now in its sixth year, J Wheeler Designs works with clients from New York to Berkeley, California. And then there are partnerships, like the one with Stonelluxe. “This collection itself was inspired by midcentury modern architecture and design,” says Wheeler. “That folds in well with this contemporary property.”
