The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra celebrates its seventieth season by proving why it’s a city staple, with plenty of selections from the classical canon (Beethoven’s Ninth, October 2, 4, 5; Handel’s Messiah, December 4–5) as well as more provocative current pieces. Contemporary Israeli composer Avner Dorman’s Spices, Perfumes, Toxins! (October 16–18) will make its Atlanta debut, showcasing ASO’s powerhouse percussionists, Thomas Sherwood and Charles Settle. The ASO is just as comfortably middlebrow as it is cutting-edge with Music from the Films of Tim Burton (October 31–November 1) and Sci-Fi Spectacular (November 28–29)
