Little Bit

6.1

Go on. You know I'm adorable.

Pet's breed: domestic short hair tabby
Pet's age: 6 years
Your pet gets in trouble when he/she: mistakes his tail for a passing squirrel
Your pet gets praise when he/she: visits me from the shadows or the woods
Describe your pet's perfect day. hunting, stalking, stretching, circling me, staring, yawning, stretching and flopping down on his back, stretching and yawning some more, then, for just a moment, staring up at me as if to say, "Darn it all, aren't I just about the most beautiful and handsome cat you've ever seen?"
What makes your pet special? He brings to me that same comforting and wordless spirit that all cats so secretly and so elegantly possess. He acknowledges my presence, recognizing my worth as both master and servant. When he circles about me, I am in his spell. And when he brushes up against me and gazes up, I know all life is good and my world is real. Here is a poem (a sonnet) that Little Bit inspired. Little Bit: A little look, a penetrating stare, / arises from the bushes and the grass. / Four little paws and eyes as bright as glass. / One wink and suddenly all life is there. // I’ve given up, and all at once I care. / What stands so still makes all my troubles pass. / All roads converge in stripes of rust and brass. / And, yards apart, we find a world to share. // I seek some meaning as I go along, / approaching what I need with all I feel. / And what I find becomes my own to keep. / They are the things that make me sure and strong. // The little bit that’s left will somehow heal / and comfort me in shadows where I sleep. // -- Alan Sugar
