This week, Atlanta welcomes some big-name fashion and design visionaries. Today through Thursday, SCAD will host the 11th annual SCADstyle—a weeklong event of panels, talks, and presentations at the art college’s campuses in Atlanta, Savannah, and Hong Kong. Events are free and open to the public.

Fern Mallis, who is best known as the creator of New York Fashion Week, will serve as honorary chair of this year’s event. She’ll kick off the week of programming in Atlanta with a conversation tonight with Oscar de la Renta alums Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the designers behind the new hot line Monse. Mallis will also sign copies of her book, Fashion Lives: Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis, which features interviews with designers such as Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Tom Ford, and Calvin Klein (who’s also making a SCADstyle appearance—in conversation with Mallis—Thursday evening in Savannah). According to Dr. Teresa Griffis, vice president of SCAD Atlanta: “As the creator of New York Fashion Week, Fern is the ultimate arbiter of what constitutes a must-attend fashion and style event.”

Later in the week, interior designer Charlotte Moss (author of nine books, including the recent Garden Inspirations) will discuss her personal style and storied career, which has included designing retail and residential spaces around the world as well as launching fabric and furniture collections. SCAD president and founder, Paula Wallace, will also make her first remarks about her new memoir.

The week closes with a conversation on branding and the boom of athleisure wear with Tyler Haney, founder of the apparel line Outdoor Voices, and Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, co-founders of the cult-like spin studio SoulCycle. It couldn’t be a more, well, fitting time for the discussion—athleisure clothing sales raked in $35 billion in 2014, according to market research firm NPD Group, marking an all-time high for the category.
