For generations of Atlantans, summer means classic series, many savored under starry skies.

» Chastain Park hosts both the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Delta Classic series (including Diana Krall, 7/11; Seal with Macy Gray, 7/28) and Live Nation’s Georgia Natural Gas series (including Sting, 6/7; Willie Nelson, 6/15). classicchastain.com, chastainseries.com

» For cinephiles, few things beat the combined majesty of the 1929 Fox Theatre, with its Moorish canopy of stars, and the lineup of current and classic film favorites featured in the annual Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival from Memorial Day to Labor Day. foxtheatre.org

» Every summer the Atlanta Botanical Garden features high-profile acts in a number of genres on the Great Lawn. This year’s lineup includes silky-voiced crooner k.d. lang (6/1), country legend Merle Haggard (8/10), and neo-folkie Mary Chapin Carpenter (8/24). This month the ABG also hosts Gourmet in May, a series of chef demonstrations and cooking classes in its new edible garden and outdoor kitchen. atlanta­botanicalgarden.org

» The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra hosts a second outdoor series at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Guest performers range from the pint-sized America’s Got Talent sensation Jackie Evancho (6/3) to the male quartet Il Divo (8/12). The ASO’s Classical and Pops series at Atlanta Symphony Hall also continue into early summer, with highlights like the world premiere of Different River by Alvin Singleton, the former composer-in-residence (5/10–12). atlantasymphony.org

» In a more intimate setting, Callanwolde’s annual Jazz on the Lawn kicks off with Latin jazz from Serenata Band (6/15) and concludes with the hybrid jazz–R&B–Southern soul act Scott Glazer’s Mojo Dojo (8/10). callanwolde.org

» Radio station 99X brings its free Sunday series Unplugged in the Park to Park Tavern for a tenth season. 99x.com/unplugged
