SweetWater partners with Atlanta Braves, cans at Turner Field
SweetWater has confirmed their new can line will be available at Turner Field, and the brewery is now the exclusive craft beer sponsor coming into the 2014 season. The cans will give the brewery more access to ticketholders throughout the ballpark, offering baseball fans an opportunity to enjoy 420 Pale Ale and IPA in 12-ounce and 16-ounce sizes.
Barley + Rye: SweetWater debuts The Giving Kitchen’s Second Helping IPA
SweetWater Brewery is set to launch a limited release of The Giving Kitchen’s Second Helping IPA next week, a collaboration that will benefit the nonprofit created to support Metro Atlanta food industry employees during unforeseen hardship. The Giving Kitchen (TGK) was inspired by the community support chef Ryan Hidinger of Staplehouse received, following a stage four gallbladder cancer diagnosis this time last year. Hidinger and his wife Jen were on the cusp of moving their much loved supper club into a brick-and-mortar location when news of the cancer struck. [Editors note: Ryan Hidinger passed away on the day we published this blog post. He leaves behind a community unified by his battle, as evidenced by the generosity he inspired.]
Old Fourth Distillery to bring craft vodka and gin to Atlanta
If all goes according to plan, Atlanta’s first distillery since Prohibition will open next May. Brothers Jeff and Craig Moore—who own a technology company, as well as several real estate properties—have secured a twenty-year lease on a 2,500-square-foot building, 487 Edgewood Avenue, in the Old Fourth Ward. There, they plan to distill vodka, gin, and, eventually, whiskey.
Cypress Street raises cash for clean water
This holiday season at Cypress Street Pint and Plate, husband-and-wife team Jenn and Bill Streck are spearheading donations to Charity: Water, a non-profit that provides clean drinking water wells to communities in need throughout the world.
SweetWater goes Deutsch with Danktoberfest
This week marks the release of SweetWater Brewery’s Danktoberfest, the latest in the Dank Tank series of rare yet popular limited-release brews. The Dank is indeed a tank at the brewery, set aside for specific pet projects — high alcohol, big flavor, and big-bodied beers that reflect whatever itch the brewers want to scratch. Last year we saw a double red ale in Fresh Sticky Nugs, as well as Ghoulash, whose undefined style is still being debated.
