The Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville is worth the trip, especially on a rainy day. Block out at least two hours to take in everything at Tellus, which is named for the Roman goddess of the earth. Let your kids pan for gems while you check out the jewelry exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian (December 7 through next November). In Science in Motion, one of six permanent galleries, there are life-sized replicas of Apollo and Mercury capsules. The Solar House (open Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.) is self-sufficient and powered completely by solar energy. 100 Tellus Drive, Cartersville, tellusmuseum.org
