Farmhouse at Serenbe

1463

A gracious escape from urban bustle, the Farmhouse is open for dinner Thursday through Saturday and lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Marie Nygren—who cofounded the Serenbe community fifty minutes south of Atlanta with her husband, Steve, and whose mother, Margaret Lupo, ran Mary Mac’s Tea Room for thirty years—oversees the kitchen. The weekly changing menus (including three or four choices each among appetizers, entrees, and desserts) reflect both the harvests from Serenbe’s year-round farm as well as a genial Southern sensibility. Expect starters like hoecake with pork belly, minted peas, and an egg cooked sunny side up; proteins like snapper or poulet rouge surrounded by vegetables, and desserts like strawberry drop biscuit cobbler. Weekend lunches means Nygren’s pan-fried chicken with three sides and a basket of ethereal chive biscuits. Vegetarians will sigh over the other lunchtime staple, cheese soufflé.
