There are few places in Atlanta we call sacred, but the sanctuary of Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church is one of them. Take your place in a worn wooden pew while the voice of America’s greatest orator soars above: “This will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, ‘My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.’” An $8 million renovation, completed in 2011, restored Ebenezer to how it looked in the 1960s when King would come home to preach in between treks stirring the conscience of the country.
